note: Via Crucis
In 2016, the American chamber choir The Crossing asked seven leading composers to provide a contemporary counterpart to the cantatas from Buxtehude's poignant cycle Membra Jesu Nostri. These compositions approached the suffering of Christ - and by extension that of man - from a new and humanistic angle. The Flemish Radio Choir takes this story even further and looks at the subject from a female perspective. From the weeping Mary on the cross to the struggling or caring women of today. In fourteen movements - as many as Christ's Way of the Cross - a musical fabric unfolds, like a warm balm for the pained soul.
