Born in Italy, Valerio Contaldo grew up in the canton of Valais (Switzerland). After training as a classical guitarist at the Conservatoire de Sion and the Ecole Normale Alfred Cortot in Paris, he studied singing with Gary Magby at the Conservatoire de Lausanne. He also attended masterclasses with Christa Ludwig, Alain Garichot, Klesie Kelly and David Jones. During his studies he was a laureate of the Madeleine Dubuis and Solidarvox foundations de Sion and the Colette Mosetti foundation de Lausanne. He is also a finalist in the 2008 Leipzig Bach Competition.

Very active and eclectic in the field of oratorio, his repertoire includes in particular: the Requiem, the Mass in C as well as the Litanies KV195 and KV243 by Mozart, die Schöpfung and Die Jahreszeiten by Haydn, King David by Honegger, the Little Solemn Mass by Rossini, the Johannes Passion, the Matthäus Passion, the Christmas Oratorio, the Mass in B minor by JS Bach as well as numerous cantatas by J.-S. Bach, the Vespro della Beata Vergine by Monteverdi, the Messiah and the Brockes Passion by Händel, the Szenen aus Goethes Faust by Schumann, the Mass in Eb by Schubert, Paulus and Die Erste Walpurgisnacht by Mendelssohn, La Messa di Gloria by Puccini, the Te Deums by Bruckner, Charpentier and Teixeira, Le Vin Herbé (Tristan) and Frank Martin's Requiem.

He performs at the biggest European festivals such as Flanders Festival (Belgium), Rheingau Festival (Germany), Folles Journées de Nantes, Bilbao, Lisbon and Tokyo, Lyon Early Music Festival, La Roque d'Anthéron Festival, Paléo Festival of Nyon, Festival of Ambronay, concerts of the Teatro Comunale “Luciano Pavarotti” of Modena, Festival delle Nazioni (Città di Castello, Italy), International Festival of Sion (Switzerland), Osterfestival Tirol (Austria), Vancouver Festival (Canada ), Amadeus Festival (Meinier- Geneva), God Chair Festival, Saint-Denis Festival, ...
