Total Immersion Happening
Schubert in a full auditory submersion
Franz Schubert is best known as a composer of symphonies and works for solo voices, but he also wrote more than a hundred songs for male choirs. The Vlaams Radiokoor has curated a selection of these for a series of short, 20-minute performances in the Horta Hall. Het Banket creates an immersive setting in which the songs flutter around your ears.
Whether with a cavalcade of acoustic instruments or purely electronic sounds, the Total Immersion festival goes for full auditory submersion: from historical compositions to new creations and even a full-evening happening.
I Solisti open the Total Immersion happening along with two hundred amateur musicians: in Salvatore Sciarrino’s Studi per l’intonazione del mare, fragile, almost inaudible sound organisms grow into overwhelming mass structures. In the Horta Hall, the Vlaams Radiokoor surrounds you with music by Schubert, and Stijn and Bert Cools offer ambient calm in Book of Air Møst. Last but not least, Jlin gets to grips with the Acousmonium.
