On 5 September, Ravekoor takes to the stage at the Meakusma Festival in Eupen, joined by Eva Goudie-Falckenbach, mezzo-soprano with Vlaams Radiokoor. Leading up to the concert, Eva will coach the group of singers before joining them in the performance during the concert.
Singing with Ravekoor is a way to connect. At regular Sunday rehearsals in the church of Saint-Gilles in Brussels, or at protests, festivals, club nights and listening concerts. What emerged from Brussels’ underground rave scene has grown into the city’s largest community-based choir: a breeding ground for emerging artists and conductors, and a safe space where everyone can sing their heart out.
At Meakusma, Ravekoor will perform The Great Learning: Paragraph 7 by British experimental composer Cornelius Cardew. The piece is part of Cardew’s monumental The Great Learning (1968–1971), a work that brings professional and non-professional voices together and gives improvisation a central role. The programme also includes an adaptation of an antiphon by Hildegard von Bingen, arranged by Thomas Van Bogaert. Meakusma is a biennial festival dedicated to experimental music, bringing together live concerts, DJ sets, installations, workshops and more.
