If there is one person who can clothe the iconic works of the Great American Songbook in a new vocal cloak, it is the composer, jazz lover and 'pop professor' Jeroen D’hoe!

The names represented in The Great American Songbook can make our heads spin: Cole Porter, Rodgers & Hart, Gershwin, as well as Bernstein and Sondheim.

What do all these numbers from the Songbook have in common?

“The music immediately stays with you, since it is simple but unique. And each and every song is a masterpiece of composition.”

“I imbibed the love of jazz with my mother’s milk: it is the repertoire with which I grew up, and I have myself played jazz for years as a double bass player!”

It is a challenge, therefore, to work on these treasures (which are engraved in everyone’s memory!), and create new arrangements for the Vlaams Radiokoor.

How do you start such a task?

“These sorts of projects are a constant for me – they are the havens to which I return time and again. This selection for the Radiokoor is an inspiring invitation to approach these classics in a four-part setting of my own making.”
