Music where spirit and sound converge: at the heart of this concert series lies a new work by Pēteris Vasks, commissioned by Casco Phil: Veni Creator Spiritus, a meditation on the mystery of Pentecost. The famous tale of the apostles, crowned with tongues of fire, meets Vasks’ unmistakable voice—fragile yet monumental—echoing the long tradition of composers who seek to sing the very breath of inspiration.
Pärt’s iconic Fratres opens the evening; Pergolesi’s timeless and deeply moving Stabat Mater brings it to a close. Two works that draw vast inner depth from the barest means—reminding us how small flames can kindle a great fire.
