As a former ‘enfant terrible’ of the new wave, Danny Elfman developed a fascination for orchestration, a new world he came to through the film music he wrote for director Tim Burton. Looking beyond Batman, Edward Scissorhands and many other great film classics' scores, this concert offers a fine sampling of his talent for creating symphonic music: an extract from Serenada Schizophrana, which premiered in 2005 in Carnegie Hall, and Eleven Eleven, a violin concerto clearly influenced by Shostakovich and Prokofiev.

Brussels Philharmonic

The Brussels Philharmonic was founded in 1935 by the Belgian public broadcaster (NIR/INR) and has always enjoyed an excellent reputation for performing premieres of new works: the orchestra collaborated with world-renowned composers such as Bartók, Stravinsky, Messiaen and Connesson. The historic home port is Flagey (Brussels), in acoustic terms one of the top concert halls in the world.
